14 Minutes, ₹14 Lakh Heist: UP Women Steal Gold Jewellery in Shocking Store Theft

UP women steal gold jewellery worth ₹14 lakh from a store in just 14 minutes, with CCTV footage revealing the brazen theft

In what was nothing short of a daring theft at a jewellery showroom in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj, a group of women allegedly stole gold ornaments worth around Rs 14 lakh in just 14 minutes.

The incident occurred at a Kalyan Jewellers showroom and was entirely captured on CCTV.

The women entered the showroom posing as customers interested in buying jewellery. While a salesman was busy showing them various items and was not at the counter, one of the women discreetly picked up a display pad containing gold earrings from the glass showcase.

She then passed the pad to another woman seated beside her, who concealed the jewellery inside her shawl. The group soon left the showroom without raising suspicion.

The theft came to light later when showroom staff reviewed CCTV footage and matched inventory, revealing that the jewellery was missing.

Soon after, the showroom manager lodged an FIR at the Civil Lines police station against four unidentified women.

Police have launched a search operation and are scanning CCTV footage from the showroom as well as cameras installed on nearby roads to trace the route taken by the suspects before and after the theft.

Civil Lines police station in-charge Ram Aashray Yadav said teams are actively working to apprehend the women involved in the crime. He added that multiple CCTV feeds are being analysed to track their movements.

In a brazen daylight theft that has shocked traders and residents alike, a group of women in Uttar Pradesh allegedly stole gold jewellery worth ₹14 lakh from a jewellery store in just 14 minutes. The incident, captured on CCTV cameras, has sparked widespread concern over shop security and rising organised thefts targeting small and mid-sized jewellery outlets.

According to police officials, the incident took place at a jewellery store located in a busy market area. The women entered the shop posing as regular customers, showing interest in purchasing gold ornaments. Shop staff, unaware of their intentions, displayed several items at the counter.

Taking advantage of the crowded environment and the shopkeeper’s momentary distraction, the women allegedly executed a well-coordinated theft, discreetly pocketing gold jewellery while continuing to engage staff in conversation. Within just 14 minutes, the suspects exited the shop and disappeared without raising immediate suspicion.

The theft came to light when the shop owner later conducted a routine inventory check and noticed missing jewellery. Upon reviewing CCTV footage, the entire sequence of events became clear.

The footage reportedly shows:

  • The women entering the store together
  • One suspect engaging the shopkeeper in conversation
  • Another subtly slipping gold items into her clothing
  • Coordinated movements suggesting prior planning

The video has since been shared with the police and is being used as primary evidence in the investigation.

Local police registered a case soon after the complaint was filed. Officers have begun analysing CCTV footage from nearby shops and roads to track the suspects’ movements after they left the store.

“Initial investigation suggests the theft was planned and executed professionally. The suspects appeared confident and knew exactly what they were doing,” a police official said.

Police teams are also checking whether the same group may be linked to similar thefts reported in other districts of Uttar Pradesh.

The incident has caused alarm among jewellery traders in the area. Shop owners are now reassessing their security measures, including staff training, CCTV coverage, and customer monitoring.

Trade associations have urged shopkeepers to:

  • Limit the number of items displayed at once
  • Ensure continuous staff presence at counters
  • Install high-resolution cameras and panic alarms

“This incident is a wake-up call. Even a few minutes of distraction can lead to massive losses,” a local jeweller said.

Experts note that such thefts often involve organised groups that travel across cities, targeting jewellery stores with similar layouts and security gaps. Women are sometimes used as primary actors because they draw less suspicion in retail environments.

Law enforcement agencies across states have been sharing information to identify patterns and prevent repeat offences.

The CCTV clips and news of the theft quickly went viral on social media, with users expressing shock at how smoothly the crime was executed. Many called for stricter punishment for repeat offenders and better protection for small businesses.

Some users also highlighted the need for shop owners to adopt technology-driven solutions, such as RFID tagging and real-time inventory alerts.

Police are confident that the suspects will be identified soon, as CCTV footage provides clear visuals. Once arrested, authorities hope to recover the stolen jewellery and uncover any wider network involved.

Meanwhile, the shop owner is cooperating fully with the investigation and has enhanced security measures to prevent future incidents.
