Massive Fire Erupts at Thane’s Blue Roof Club During Wedding Reception | 1,200 Guests Evacuated Safely

A massive fire broke out at Thane’s Blue Roof Club during a wedding reception, triggering panic. All 1,200 guests were safely evacuated

A fire broke out late Thursday night at The Blue Roof Club in Thane (West) while a wedding reception was underway, officials from the Thane Municipal Corporation’s Disaster Management Cell said.

More than 1,000 wedding guests escaped without any injury after a fire broke out at a banquet hall in Maharashtra’s Thane city, the officials said.

The incident occurred around 11 pm on Thursday at the marriage hall premises in the Ovala area along the Ghodbunder Road in the city, they said.

According to Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Disaster Management Cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation, “Mandap decoration materials kept outside a cabin on the lawn of ‘The Blue Roof Club’ caught fire. A wedding reception was underway at the venue at the time.”

The official said that 1,000 to 1,200 guests had gathered at the venue at the time of the incident.

“As soon as the fire was noticed, guests were safely moved out of the venue, preventing any casualties,” he said. Fire officials said timely alertness and swift evacuation played a key role in “averting a major tragedy”.

The firefighting operation involved two fire engines, one rescue vehicle, and one utility vehicle. An official said the fire was extinguished by around midnight.

In another incident, a fire erupted outside a tunnel on the Coastal Road in south Mumbai on Wednesday evening, but no injuries were reported, civic officials said, reported PTI.

The blaze outside the tunnel at Marine Lines opposite the Police Gymkhana was reported to the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) at 7.12 pm, they said, reported PTI.

No injuries were reported in the fire, which was doused in less than an hour, said the officials.

A civic official said the blaze may have been caused by a short circuit.

The structure where the fire started was used for the storage of some materials, he added.

Earlier, a fire broke out at three warehouses in Maharashtra’s Thane district on Sunday afternoon, triggering panic in the industrial area, officials said, reported PTI.

There was no report of any casualty, they said.

The blaze was reported at around 2.30 pm in three warehouses at Gayatri Nagar in Bhiwandi town, the officials said, adding it was not yet known what was stored there.

Multiple fire engines were rushed to the spot, Bhiwandi Nizampur Municipal Corporation’s disaster management cell chief Saquib Kharbe said, reported PTI.

“So far, there are no reports of anyone being injured,” he said, adding that efforts were on to ensure the fire does not spread to adjoining structures.

The exact cause of the blaze was yet to be ascertained.

Earlier in the day, a fire broke out at a godown storing autorickshaws at Kalher in Bhiwandi town, officials said.

A major fire broke out at Thane’s popular Blue Roof Club on Saturday night during a wedding reception, triggering panic among guests and staff. Thanks to swift action by emergency services and venue management, around 1,200 people were evacuated safely, and no casualties were reported, officials confirmed.

The incident occurred while celebrations were underway, with hundreds of guests present inside the banquet and surrounding areas. Visuals from the scene showed thick smoke billowing from parts of the premises as fire engines rushed to the spot.

According to preliminary information, the fire reportedly started in a section of the club complex during the reception. While the exact cause of the blaze is yet to be officially determined, initial assessments suggest it may have originated from an electrical source. Fire officials said an investigation has been launched to establish the precise reason.

Guests at the venue described moments of confusion as smoke began spreading. However, timely announcements and assistance from staff helped prevent chaos. Many attendees praised the quick response, saying clear exit routes and coordinated evacuation played a crucial role in avoiding injuries.

Emergency services received an alert shortly after the fire was detected. Multiple fire tenders were dispatched to the location, and firefighters worked rapidly to control the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjacent areas of the club.

Authorities confirmed that approximately 1,200 guests, including family members, staff, and vendors, were safely evacuated. Medical teams were also kept on standby, though no injuries or smoke inhalation cases were reported.

A senior fire official stated, “The fire was contained in time. Due to the quick evacuation and coordination, there were no casualties. Cooling operations were carried out to ensure there was no reignition.”

Local police personnel arrived at the scene to manage crowds and secure the area. Traffic in the vicinity was temporarily diverted to allow fire engines and emergency vehicles unhindered access.

Officials from the civic body also inspected the site to assess compliance with fire safety norms. Preliminary reports indicate that the venue had fire safety systems in place, though authorities will conduct a detailed audit as part of the investigation.

The wedding reception was immediately halted following the incident. Family members and guests were escorted out of the premises and gathered at a safe distance. While the incident caused distress and disappointment, many expressed relief that everyone was safe.

Guests shared that the situation could have turned dangerous if the fire had spread further or if evacuation had been delayed. Several attendees credited the presence of trained staff and emergency exits for preventing panic.

Fire officials and police have launched a joint investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Electrical wiring, decorative installations, and temporary setups used during the event are being examined.

Authorities are also expected to review whether all necessary permissions and safety clearances were in place. Any lapses found during the inquiry could lead to further action against responsible parties.

The incident has once again highlighted the importance of strict fire safety measures at large gatherings, especially during wedding season when banquet halls and clubs host events with high footfall.

Experts stress the need for:

Regular fire safety audits

Functional fire extinguishers and alarms

Clear evacuation routes

Trained staff to handle emergencies

Civic officials urged venue owners to strictly adhere to safety norms and advised event organizers to remain vigilant.
