Sharda University Suicide Shocker: Student Dies After Alleged Teacher Harassment, 2 Employees Arrested
Sharda University student dies by suicide after alleging teacher harassment; 2 employees arrested as campus reels from shocking tragedy and public outrage
A second-year BDS student at Sharda University in Greater Noida died by suicide on Monday, allegedly due to harassment by faculty members.
The incident took place in the hostel room of the university, which comes under the jurisdiction of the Knowledge Park Police Station.
Police recovered a suicide note from the scene, in which the victim accused her teachers of harassment and humiliation.
In her suicide note, the student held the teachers of PCP and Dental Materials responsible for her death, alleging that they mentally harassed and humiliated her, causing stress.

She called for them to be held accountable and face consequences in case of her death.
Following the incident, tensions escalated on campus as students staged protests, demanding accountability from the college authorities.
A heated exchange also broke out between police personnel and protesting students.
Based on a complaint filed by the student’s family, police have detained two individuals. The matter is currently under investigation, said officials.
“Two staff members from the management of the university have been arrested on the basis of the complaint lodged by the family members of the student,” Additional DCP, Greater Noida, Sudhir Kumar, said.
The university has not issued any official statement in connection with the case yet.
The incident comes days after a college student in Odisha’s Balasore district died after setting herself on fire, allegedly over harassment by a teacher.
She sustained severe burn injuries and later succumbed during treatment.
In a heartbreaking incident that has rocked the academic community and triggered widespread outrage, a student of Sharda University in Greater Noida died by suicide, allegedly due to prolonged harassment by faculty members. The incident came to light after a chilling suicide note was discovered, in which the student accused multiple university staff of mental harassment. Following preliminary investigation, two university employees have been arrested.
The student, identified as a 22-year-old undergraduate, was found dead in her hostel room on Thursday evening. According to police sources, a handwritten note was found at the scene, where she wrote:

“I can’t take this anymore. The teachers have made my life hell.”
The note, which is now a key piece of evidence, names at least two faculty members who allegedly subjected her to constant academic pressure, public humiliation, and personal insults over the last several months.
Emergency services were alerted by fellow hostel mates, but by the time authorities arrived, the student was declared dead at the scene. The police have launched a case under Section 306 of the IPC (abetment of suicide) and detained two employees for questioning, later confirming their arrest.
The arrested individuals are reportedly mid-level academic staff associated with the student’s department. According to the complaint filed by the student’s family, these faculty members repeatedly harassed her over assignments, attendance issues, and even personal choices.
One of the accused, reportedly a professor, has been accused by other students in the past of creating a hostile classroom environment, but no formal action was taken.
The student’s parents, devastated by the loss of their only daughter, demanded immediate justice and accountability from the university.
“She was a bright, kind-hearted girl. She never showed signs of depression. The college must be held responsible,” her father said.
Her friends and classmates have since come forward with similar accounts of toxic academic pressure and alleged favoritism by the staff. Several students staged a silent protest on campus, holding placards that read: “Justice for Our Friend,” and “Stop Faculty Harassment.”
Sharda University issued a brief statement expressing deep sorrow over the incident and promised full cooperation with the investigation.
“We are committed to maintaining a safe and nurturing academic environment. Any violation of student rights will not be tolerated. An internal inquiry has also been initiated,” the statement read.
However, critics have slammed the university’s handling of past harassment complaints, alleging that such issues are routinely ignored or brushed under the carpet.
The tragic death has reignited discussions around mental health support in educational institutions, and the urgent need for anti-harassment frameworks. Legal experts suggest that if the suicide note is corroborated with witness testimony, the charges could lead to stringent punishment for the accused under Indian law.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) and UGC have taken suo motu cognizance of the matter, demanding a detailed report from the university within 48 hours.
