Delhi Drama: Drunk Man Refuses to Pay for Food Delivery, 2 Cops Rush to Intervene in Viral Incident

A Delhi man was allegedly dragged out of his home and assaulted by police after refusing to pay for a cancelled Zomato order

A man in Delhi refused to pay for his cancelled Zomato order, leading to police intervention and alleged assault.

The customer had reportedly cancelled his order, but the Zomato delivery partner still demanded money. When the man declined to pay, the delivery partner called the police. Soon after, officers arrived at the man’s residence, dragged him out, and allegedly assaulted him before taking him to the police station. The entire episode was captured on CCTV.

According to Delhi Police, the customer was intoxicated. Officials said, “He had ordered food on Zomato but did not pay the delivery partner. When the cops reached the spot, he misbehaved with them. After that, he was taken to the police station and a medical test confirmed alcohol consumption.”

Later, the situation de-escalated when the Zomato delivery partner withdrew his complaint, following which the accused was released.

In yet another incident highlighting the challenges faced by food delivery agents across India, a drunk man in Delhi allegedly refused to pay for an order he had placed late at night, prompting police intervention. The bizarre situation not only disrupted the delivery process but also went viral on social media after eyewitnesses captured footage of the drama.

According to reports, the incident occurred in South Delhi’s Saket area when a delivery partner from a popular food delivery platform arrived at a residential complex around midnight. The customer, allegedly intoxicated, accepted the food but refused to make the payment that was due in cash.

When the delivery agent insisted on payment, the man reportedly began arguing and hurled abuses. Neighbors alerted local police after witnessing the heated exchange, fearing that the situation might escalate.

Two police officers from the Saket Police Station arrived at the scene within minutes. Eyewitness videos show the man arguing with both the delivery agent and the police, slurring his speech while insisting he had already paid online—something the delivery app’s records contradicted.

“The customer was visibly under the influence of alcohol and kept refusing to settle the bill. We had to step in to resolve the matter and ensure the delivery partner wasn’t harassed,” a police official said.

The police eventually convinced the man to clear the payment, warning him against creating public nuisance and threatening action if the behavior was repeated.

Clips of the incident quickly surfaced on social media platforms, sparking widespread discussion. Onlookers shared the video on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram with captions like “The struggles of delivery workers are real” and “Respect delivery partners—they deal with so much.”

The video has since garnered thousands of views, with many netizens expressing sympathy for the delivery agent and criticizing the man’s behavior.

Delivery workers, often hailed as the backbone of India’s urban convenience culture, continue to face a range of challenges—including non-payment, verbal abuse, and safety risks. In interviews with local reporters, the delivery agent expressed frustration, saying:

“We work long hours and depend on timely payments. Incidents like these not only waste our time but also affect our earnings and dignity.”

He also praised the police for intervening quickly, preventing the situation from escalating further.

Support for Delivery Workers: Many users urged stricter laws to protect gig economy workers from harassment and non-payment.

Criticism of Irresponsible Behavior: Netizens condemned the drunk customer’s actions, calling it an example of entitlement and lack of respect.

Calls for Digital-Only Transactions: Some suggested that platforms should mandate prepaid orders to avoid such confrontations in the future.

Cash on Delivery Issues – COD transactions often result in disputes, fraud, or refusals.

Safety Concerns – Delivery workers frequently navigate unsafe neighborhoods or deal with aggressive customers.

Low Pay & Long Hours – Despite being crucial to urban lifestyles, delivery workers often earn modest incomes, working late nights and early mornings.

Lack of Legal Protection – Most delivery workers fall under the gig economy and lack the formal rights of traditional employees.

“Our officers responded promptly to a call regarding a dispute between a delivery agent and a customer under the influence of alcohol. The matter was resolved on the spot. Citizens are urged to respect delivery professionals and avoid creating public disturbances.”
