How Preity Zinta Became the Breakout Star of IPL 2025 on Social Media

Preity Zinta: An Everlasting Presence in IPL Beyond the Silver Screen

New Delhi — Preity Zinta may have taken a conscious step back from her acting career, but her luminous presence has never faded from the public eye—especially not from the cricket grounds of the Indian Premier League (IPL). As the co-owner of Punjab Kings (PBKS), Preity Zinta has successfully merged her stardom with sportsmanship, becoming a recognizable and beloved figure on the IPL circuit.

After starring in Bhaiaji Superhit in 2018, Zinta took a hiatus from films to prioritize her personal life. She relocated to Los Angeles to build a life with her husband, financial analyst Gene Goodenough, and welcomed twins, Jai and Gia, via surrogacy. Despite the shift in focus, Zinta remained as visible and passionate as ever—albeit in a different arena: cricket stadiums across India.

Whether it’s cheering from the stands or interacting with fans, Preity Zinta has proven herself to be more than just a team owner. She is often seen at IPL games, animatedly celebrating each run and wicket, exuding the same enthusiasm that once lit up cinema screens. Cameras still love her, and the feeling appears to be mutual.

At every PBKS match, Zinta is often accompanied by her husband Gene and her mother, Nilprabha Zinta. Her wardrobe during these matches draws just as much attention as her infectious energy. From elegant white salwar-kameez ensembles adorned with phulkari embroidery to her team’s official jersey, her fashion sense remains impeccable and in sync with the spirit of the game.

On May 26, during a thrilling match between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians (MI), emotions ran high when PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer secured the win with a powerful six, ensuring the team’s advancement to Qualifier 1. Preity Zinta was visibly teary-eyed, overcome with pride and joy. In typical exuberant fashion, she leapt from her seat, pumped her fists in the air, and sprinted to the field to embrace the victorious captain. The moment perfectly encapsulated her dual role as both a team owner and the team’s most ardent cheerleader.

Zinta is also a favorite among spectators. She readily poses for selfies, high-fives fans, and brings a sense of warmth and accessibility that is rare among celebrity team owners. But she also knows when to step up with poise and responsibility—especially in times of crisis.

One such instance occurred on May 8, during a PBKS match against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Dharamsala. The match was abruptly cancelled due to a sudden blackout triggered by escalating India-Pakistan military tensions. Amid the chaos, Zinta’s actions spoke volumes about her leadership qualities. Videos of her urging fans to vacate the stadium calmly and safely went viral, earning widespread praise.

In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter) dated May 11, Zinta thanked authorities and fans for their cooperation during the emergency. She extended her gratitude to the Indian Railways, the Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the BCCI, and others who facilitated the safe evacuation of teams and spectators. “A big thank you… Everything was handled so well,” she wrote. Addressing her fans directly, she added, “I’m sorry I was a bit curt & said no to pictures with everyone, but the need of the hour was the safety of everyone… Thank you for making it possible.”

Her candid acknowledgment of the situation and firm response earned her admiration far beyond the cricketing world. That night, she traded celebrity glamour for civic responsibility—a transformation that deepened her credibility both as a public figure and as a team leader.

Her popularity even inspired a quirky fan suggestion on social media: a film starring Preity Zinta and Delhi Capitals captain Faf du Plessis. The idea received light-hearted approval, even from the South African cricketer himself, showcasing Zinta’s continued cultural relevance across domains.

As the IPL 2025 season intensifies, Punjab Kings are scheduled to face Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on May 29 in Qualifier 1. The game is expected to be a high-stakes encounter, with RCB captain Virat Kohli drawing support from his wife, Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma. On the other side, Zinta will, as always, be present in the stands—rallying behind PBKS, lifting spirits, and creating moments both on and off the field.

From Bollywood sets to IPL stadiums, Preity Zinta exemplifies unwavering dedication, emotional intelligence, and a genuine love for sport. Her journey underscores a rare, seamless transition from actress to entrepreneur, from entertainer to sporting ambassador. Whether she’s in Los Angeles raising her family or at an Indian cricket ground cheering her team, one thing is clear: Preity Zinta never really left the spotlight—she simply chose a new stage to shine on.
