The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather alert for Hyderabad, warning that the city is likely to experience intense rainfall on Friday. According to the forecast, at least three key zones of the city have been marked under high-risk categories due to the possibility of waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and localized flooding.

The IMD has issued a red alert for several parts of Telangana, with Hyderabad expected to witness heavy downpour during peak hours on Friday. Officials have cautioned that the rains may bring intense thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds, which could severely impact normal life. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has been instructed to remain on high alert, particularly in low-lying areas prone to flooding.
As per IMD’s weather update, three major regions in and around Hyderabad could face the brunt of heavy rainfall:
Central Hyderabad: Areas like Nampally, Abids, and Koti are prone to severe traffic jams and waterlogging during heavy rain.
North Hyderabad: Secunderabad, Malkajgiri, and surrounding localities may witness overflowing drains and flooding.
West Hyderabad: IT hubs in Madhapur, Gachibowli, and Kondapur could face disruptions, affecting office-goers and tech parks.
Authorities have warned that commuters should avoid unnecessary travel during the rainfall period. The intense showers could lead to:
Severe traffic congestion on arterial roads and highways.
Overflowing drains and localized flooding in low-lying colonies.
Possible power outages in certain areas due to thunderstorms.
Risk of tree falls and road accidents in high-wind zones.
Schools and workplaces have also been advised to take precautionary measures, including online classes or remote work options if the situation worsens.

The Telangana government has directed municipal authorities to deploy emergency response teams across the city. GHMC officials confirmed that disaster response squads and drainage maintenance crews have been kept on standby. In addition, residents have been urged to report flooding or emergency situations through the GHMC helpline numbers.
The Hyderabad Traffic Police has also prepared a contingency plan to divert vehicles from waterlogged stretches and monitor traffic in real time using CCTV surveillance.
The IMD has issued a set of guidelines for Hyderabad residents to stay safe during the heavy rains:
Avoid venturing out during intense downpours unless necessary.
Stay away from open fields, electric poles, and trees during thunderstorms.
Keep emergency kits ready with torchlights, batteries, and drinking water.
Ensure that mobile devices are fully charged to stay updated with alerts.
