On August 8, 2025, the Union Cabinet led Prime Minister approved a compensation of ₹30,000 crore to oil companies, which will be paid in twelve parts with the motive keep LPG prices stable amid global uncertainities. Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri praised the decision to pay ₹30,000 crore in twelve parts to oil companies.
In a major relief for hotels, restaurants, and small businesses, state-run Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have revised the prices of commercial LPG cylinders. Starting today, the cost of a 19-kg commercial gas cylinder has been reduced by ₹51.5 per unit across major cities in India. This decision is expected to provide much-needed relief to the food and hospitality sector, which relies heavily on bulk LPG usage.

The revision, announced on the first day of the month, is part of the routine price adjustment by OMCs based on global crude oil prices and currency fluctuations.

Small eateries, bakeries, and catering services are also likely to benefit, which in turn could help stabilize food prices for consumers.
While commercial LPG prices have been slashed, there has been no change in domestic LPG cylinder rates used by households. Domestic LPG prices remain under government subsidy considerations and are revised separately from commercial cylinders.
MCs such as Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) revise LPG prices monthly. The changes are based on:
International crude oil rates.
Global LPG import costs.
Exchange rate movements.
Local taxes and freight charges.
