The fire started on the third floor of the building. The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), along with local police, 108 ambulance services, Adani Electricity provider personnel, and civic ward officials, were swiftly dispatched to the scene.

The fire was brought under control and completely extinguished after a few minutes at around 2:43 pm according to the report. Swift action by the authorities and residents led to no fatal injuries. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.

A massive fire broke out in a residential building located in Mumbai’s densely populated Ghatkopar East area on Sunday evening, triggering panic among residents and drawing a swift response from the city’s fire brigade. The blaze, which engulfed more than 10 floors of the high-rise structure, was brought under control after a tense firefighting operation lasting several hours. Miraculously, no injuries or casualties were reported.

The incident occurred at around 6:30 PM in the Jivdaya Lane locality of Ghatkopar East, a heavily populated suburban area known for its mix of commercial and residential complexes. Witnesses say thick plumes of black smoke could be seen rising from the upper floors of the building as residents rushed out in panic.

The fire reportedly started in a flat on one of the middle floors and quickly spread vertically due to flammable materials and poor ventilation. Panic gripped the building as residents tried to evacuate down smoke-filled staircases. Some were seen waving for help from balconies, prompting immediate emergency response efforts.

Mumbai Fire Brigade officials confirmed that 10+ fire tenders, including water tankers and hydraulic ladders, were rushed to the spot. Firefighters faced a difficult task navigating narrow lanes and parked vehicles, but they managed to reach the location within minutes.

A senior fire officer on the scene said:

“The fire was classified as Level-2 and was spreading fast. We had to initiate simultaneous evacuation and suppression efforts. Fortunately, all residents were brought to safety in time.”

Several residents were rescued using aerial ladders and breathing apparatuses. Electricity supply to the building was cut off as a precautionary measure, and surrounding buildings were also evacuated temporarily to prevent further risk.

According to initial reports, more than 10 floors were affected by the fire either directly or due to smoke and water damage. The structural integrity of the building is now under assessment by the municipal engineers and disaster management authorities.

Residents who escaped the fire were seen gathering in nearby lanes and parks, many of them visibly shaken. Some lost important documents, electronics, and valuables, but the absence of injuries or fatalities was seen as a major relief.

One resident shared their experience:

“There was a loud bang, and then smoke started filling the corridor. We had no idea what was happening. Thank God the fire brigade reached in time.”

While the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, preliminary findings suggest it may have originated due to an electrical short circuit in one of the apartments. Fire officials are conducting a detailed audit of the building’s safety protocols and fire compliance.

Local authorities have urged housing societies across the city to regularly maintain their fire safety systems and ensure functional extinguishers, sprinklers, and clear emergency exits.
