Mumbai Dadar: Ticketless Woman Screams at Railway Officials During Check — Viral Video Hits 2 Million Views
A dramatic scene unfolded on a Mumbai local train as a ticketless woman shouted at railway officials during a routine check. The heated altercation was caught on camera, with the viral video crossing 2 million views online
Mumbai’s busy suburban railway network witnessed chaos recently as a video of a woman creating a dramatic scene during a ticket inspection went viral. Allegedly filmed at Dadar railway station’s foot-over bridge, the video captures the woman yelling, crying and arguing with ticket-checking staff and Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials.
In the video, the woman, dressed in formal office attire, is seen protesting loudly while a man clutches her handbag, reportedly to stop her from fleeing after she was asked to produce a valid train ticket. An RPF officer is also seen in the clip, attempting to de-escalate the situation and urging her to cooperate. The woman, however, appears increasingly agitated.
“I was not running, can you not look at my condition?” she screams when accused of trying to escape. When asked to show her ticket or pay the fine, she yells, “Give me your QR code. I have to rush.” Throughout the video, railway staff are seen maintaining calm and trying to reason with her, despite the ruckus on the crowded bridge. The Free Press Journal could not independently verify the authenticity of the video or confirm whether any official action was taken against the woman.
In yet another viral episode from the city’s bustling local trains, a woman traveling without a ticket was caught on camera yelling at railway officials during a routine ticket-checking drive on the Western Line of Mumbai’s local railway network. The dramatic confrontation, which took place on a packed compartment during peak hours, quickly escalated and was captured by several passengers on their smartphones. The video has since gone viral on social media, amassing over 2 million views in less than 24 hours, and sparking debate over passenger behavior and law enforcement on public transport.
According to officials from the Western Railway Division, the incident occurred around 9:30 AM on Monday between Borivali and Andheri stations. A team of three ticket inspectors, along with Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel, was conducting a regular inspection when they approached the woman seated in the ladies’ compartment.
When asked to present her ticket or pass, the woman reportedly became agitated and refused to comply. Witnesses stated that she began shouting at the officials, accusing them of harassment and claiming she had forgotten her ticket due to a medical emergency. However, the officials insisted on verification, at which point the situation turned confrontational.
In the videos circulating on X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and Facebook, the woman can be seen yelling at a male ticket inspector, while another official attempts to calm her down. Despite repeated requests, she refuses to provide any identification or cooperate with the inspection team.
At one point, the woman is heard saying,
“You have no right to question me! I am a woman, and this is harassment!
Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel are then seen intervening as the argument draws attention from nearby passengers. The train was briefly halted at Andheri station, where she was escorted off the train for further questioning.
Western Railway officials confirmed that the woman had no valid ticket or monthly pass and refused to pay the penalty on the spot. She was detained for a brief period and later fined under the Railways Act, Section 138, which deals with traveling without a valid ticket.
A senior ticket examiner stated:
“Our teams are trained to handle such situations calmly. However, aggressive resistance and verbal abuse have been rising. We’re committed to enforcing the rules while ensuring dignity and fairness.”
The woman was reportedly fined ₹1,000, including penalty charges. No FIR has been lodged as of now, but the RPF is reviewing video footage to determine if further action is warranted.
The incident has sparked a flurry of reactions online. While many users slammed the woman for misbehaving with railway staff and flouting basic rules, others argued that the situation could have been handled with more sensitivity.
Popular YouTuber @TrainTrackTalk posted:
“Everyone has a bad day, but abusing public officials is unacceptable. Rules exist for a reason.”
On the other hand, some netizens expressed concern over the growing number of such public confrontations being filmed and posted online for viral content without consent.
According to the Ministry of Railways, Indian Railways penalized over 1.2 crore ticketless passengers in 2024, recovering more than ₹1,400 crore in fines. Mumbai’s local train network, the lifeline for over 75 lakh daily commuters, remains one of the hardest hit by ticketless travel and overcrowding, prompting stricter enforcement in recent years.
Railway officials have increased inspection drives and are also installing AI-based surveillance systems to monitor compartments in real-time, especially during peak hours.
