Prime Minister Narendra Modi reacts warmly to Omar Abdullah’s visit to the Statue of Unity, calling it “good to see.” The moment goes viral with 1.1 million+ views and sparks political buzz
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (July 31, 2025) expressed happiness over Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah enjoying his visit to Gujarat, and said his visit to the Statue of Unity will inspire fellow Indians to travel to different parts of the country.
Mr. Abdullah was in Ahmedabad to attend a tourism event.
Mr. Modi said on X, “Kashmir to Kevadia! Good to see Shri Omar Abdullah Ji enjoying his run at the Sabarmati Riverfront and visiting the Statue of Unity. His visit to SoU gives an important message of unity and will inspire our fellow Indians to travel to different parts of India.”
Earlier, Mr. Abdullah posted pictures of his morning run at the famed Sabarmati River Front promenade.
He said, “It’s one of the nicest places I’ve been able to run and it was a pleasure to get to share it with so many other walkers/runners. I even managed to run past the amazing Atal Foot Bridge.”
The 182-metre Statue of Unity is the world’s tallest statue dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the country’s first home minister. It is situated near Ekta Nagar, previously known as Kevadia, in Narmada district.

Speaking to reporters standing on the wall of the dam at Ekta Nagar, Mr. Abdullah said he never imagined that these two structures would be so impressive.
“Both these structures are a true tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who is known as the Iron Man of India. These structures are the symbols of new India. Just imagine that this dam helped us in providing water to arid regions like Kutch. People’s lives changed because of this project,” he said.
“We (the people of J&K) were not that fortunate, because we could never conceive such projects. Because we were not allowed to stop river waters. Now, when the Indus Water Treaty has been suspended, we are seeing a ray of hope,” said Mr. Abdullah.
In a rare moment of political warmth, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday lauded National Conference leader Omar Abdullah’s visit to the iconic Statue of Unity, calling it “good to see” and “encouraging for national integration.” The post quickly went viral, crossing 1.1 million views and 120,000 likes within hours of being shared.
The unexpected exchange comes amid a deeply polarized political atmosphere, making this symbolic gesture of unity at the world’s tallest statue—Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 182-meter marvel in Gujarat—all the more notable.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Modi reposted photos shared by Omar Abdullah from his visit to the Statue of Unity.
“Good to see this! The Statue of Unity is a must-visit, offering a glimpse into the vision and values of Sardar Patel,” PM Modi wrote in his repost.
The brief yet cordial comment drew widespread attention, triggering a flurry of responses across political and public spheres.

Omar Abdullah, former Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir and Vice President of the National Conference, is currently on a personal tour of Gujarat. His visit to the Statue of Unity in Kevadia, accompanied by family and a few party members, included:

A guided tour of the museum and viewing gallery
A boat ride near the Narmada riverfront
A wreath-laying tribute at the statue’s base
He described the experience as “humbling and deeply patriotic”, despite his party’s traditional differences with the BJP-led central government.
The gesture struck a chord with netizens, with many praising the mature political civility shown by both leaders.
“This is the kind of mutual respect Indian politics needs,” wrote one user.
“Sardar Patel belongs to every Indian. Great to see cross-party reverence,” said another.
Some critics, however, viewed it as political posturing ahead of key elections in Jammu & Kashmir.
