A major accident has happened in Pune, Maharashtra today i.e. on the evening of 15 June. Half of the bridge built on the Indrayani River broke and fell. When the bridge collapsed, many people were present on the same bridge at that time. In such a situation, it is estimated that about 25 to 30 people have been swept away in the river.
Some tourists have drowned due to the collapse of the bridge at Kund Mall in Maval, Pune. According to the information available, this incident occurred at around 3:40 pm. There were stones also present on the part of the bridge that fell. Those who fell on the rocks have also suffered serious injuries. At the same time, many people have been swept away by the river stream.

Due to it being Sunday, a large number of tourists were present on the pool at that time. Some people were standing on the bridge and were getting photographs taken. Information about how many people have drowned has not been revealed yet. According to initial information, about 20 to 25 people have drowned. About 200 tourists were present at the spot. After the accident, everyone was removed from the place so that there is no problem in the rescue operation.
On June 15, 2025, a devastating event occurred near Pune, Maharashtra, when the Kundmala pedestrian bridge over the Indrayani River collapsed, resulting in at least four confirmed deaths and over 51 injuries. The incident took place in the Maval tehsil, near Talegaon Dabhade, a popular tourist area.
At approximately 3:30 PM IST, the iron spans of the Kundmala bridge gave way, sending pedestrians and vehicles plunging into the swollen Indrayani River below. The bridge, built around 1993, was primarily intended for pedestrian use but had been subjected to unauthorized use by two-wheelers and, on occasion, heavier vehicles. Eyewitnesses reported that several individuals were on the bridge at the time of the collapse, including tourists and local residents.
The river’s current was particularly strong due to recent heavy rains, complicating rescue efforts. Initial reports indicated that at least two individuals had been swept away, with several others injured.
Upon receiving news of the collapse, local authorities, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), fire brigade, and police, swiftly mobilized to the site. Rescue teams worked tirelessly to locate survivors and recover bodies from the river. As of the latest updates, six individuals had been rescued, and 32 people were reported missing. The injured were transported to nearby hospitals, with six in critical condition.
The Maharashtra government announced compensation of ₹5 lakh each to the families of the deceased and assured full medical support to the injured.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde expressed deep sorrow over the incident. They confirmed that the bridge, overseen by the Pune Zilla Parishad, was approximately 30 years old and in poor condition. Although repairs had been sanctioned six months prior, the collapse occurred before the work could be executed. The state government has initiated a structural audit of all river bridges and pledged strict action if negligence is identified.
The incident has raised questions about the maintenance and safety of infrastructure in the region, especially in areas frequented by tourists.
The Indrayani River, a significant water body in the region, has been facing ecological challenges. Recent reports highlighted the presence of foamy contamination in the river, attributed to untreated sewage and industrial waste. Despite warnings from the Bombay High Court and directives from the state chief minister, authorities have yet to implement effective measures to address the pollution.
The collapse of the bridge has further exacerbated concerns about the river’s health and the safety of structures in its vicinity.
The Kundmala bridge was a popular spot for both locals and tourists, especially during the monsoon season. The collapse has left the community in shock and mourning. Local residents and visitors have expressed their grief and called for better infrastructure and safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
The incident has also sparked discussions about the need for regular inspections and maintenance of public infrastructure, particularly in areas with high foot traffic and vehicular movement.
