Rakesh Roshan, At 75, Undergoes Neck Angioplasty — Health Update from Mumbai Hospital Released
Veteran filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, 75, undergoes neck angioplasty in a Mumbai hospital. Family confirms stable condition and steady recovery post-surgery
According to hospital sources, the surgery was successful, and Rakesh Roshan is currently under observation in the recovery unit. A carotid artery angioplasty is often conducted when fatty deposits block the blood vessels that supply blood to the brain and head, increasing the risk of stroke. The procedure involves using a balloon-tipped catheter to widen the artery and improve blood flow, sometimes followed by the placement of a stent to keep the artery open.
His daughter Sunaina Roshan confirmed the news and shared an update about his health in a brief conversation with Amar Ujala Digital. She said, “Yes, papa had an angioplasty in his neck, but he’s perfectly fine now. There’s nothing to worry about. He’s resting.”
Rakesh Roshan is reported to be stable and responding well to treatment. He is expected to remain in the hospital for a few more days as a precautionary measure. The Roshan family has not yet issued an official statement, but those close to them have indicated there is no cause for immediate concern.
Rakesh Roshan has had prior health challenges, including a battle with early-stage throat cancer in 2018, which he successfully overcame. Known for directing blockbuster hits like Karan Arjun, Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, and the Krrish franchise, Roshan’s health has long been a matter of public interest.
Veteran Bollywood filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, 75, underwent a neck angioplasty earlier this week at a top private hospital in Mumbai after complaints of persistent discomfort and restricted blood flow. The surgery was successful, and doctors have confirmed that the senior director-producer is currently in a stable condition and under close medical observation.

The news was confirmed by sources close to the Roshan family, who stated that the procedure was performed as a precautionary and corrective measure after a routine health check-up revealed a blockage in a neck artery that supplies blood to the brain.
Rakesh Roshan, father of actor Hrithik Roshan, had reportedly been experiencing mild dizziness and fatigue over the past few weeks. Initial assessments suggested possible cardiovascular involvement, prompting doctors to recommend a more detailed investigation. Tests revealed narrowing of a carotid artery, a condition that, if left untreated, could increase the risk of stroke.
Doctors opted for a minimally invasive neck angioplasty, a procedure that involves placing a stent to widen the artery and restore normal blood flow. The operation was conducted under local anesthesia and lasted under two hours.
A senior cardiologist from the hospital, speaking anonymously, said:
“Mr. Rakesh Roshan responded well to the procedure. The angioplasty was timely, and the blockage was treated successfully. He is now in recovery and being monitored in the ICU for standard post-operative observation.”
The family, in a short statement, also reassured fans and well-wishers:
“Rakeshji is doing well. The procedure went smoothly, and he is expected to return home in a few days. We thank everyone for their concern and blessings.”
This isn’t the first time the Krrish director has faced a major health concern. In 2018, Rakesh Roshan was diagnosed with early-stage throat cancer, for which he underwent surgery and radiotherapy. The filmmaker fought the disease bravely and returned to work months later, receiving immense support from the film fraternity and his son Hrithik.

Now, with this successful angioplasty, fans and colleagues are once again rallying around the senior Roshan with messages of support and admiration for his resilience.
The Bollywood community has flooded social media with prayers and wishes for his speedy recovery.
- Hrithik Roshan, currently shooting for his upcoming film, has been by his father’s side since the surgery.
- Celebrities like Farhan Akhtar, Anil Kapoor, and Karan Johar shared heartfelt messages for the filmmaker.
- Actor Amitabh Bachchan tweeted, “Wishing my dear friend Rakesh Roshan a strong and swift recovery. You are a fighter.”
Rakesh Roshan, known for directing and producing blockbusters like Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, Koi… Mil Gaya, and the Krrish series, had been working on early-stage plans for the much-awaited Krrish 4. Sources say the project is on pause while the filmmaker focuses on recovery.
Medical experts advise that, with proper rest and rehabilitation, Roshan could resume normal activities within a few weeks.
