Jitendra Kumar, alias Bablu, had been declared missing since 2018. Married to Sheelu in 2017, the couple’s relationship turned sour within a year. Sheelu was allegedly harassed for dowry, a gold chain and a ring, and was thrown out of her marital home when the demands were not met. Following this, her family lodged a complaint of dowry harassment.
Amid the ongoing investigation into the dowry case, Jitendra mysteriously disappeared. His father filed a missing person report on April 20, 2018, prompting police to begin an extensive but fruitless search. In the absence of leads, Jitendra’s family accused Sheelu and her relatives of foul play, alleging they had killed him and made his body disappear.
For years, Sheelu lived in hope, unaware of her husband’s whereabouts. Eventually, seven years later, she came across an Instagram reel featuring her husband with another woman. Recognising him instantly, she reported the matter to the Kotwali Sandila police.
Police investigation revealed that Jitendra had staged his own disappearance and relocated to Ludhiana, where he married another woman and started a new life. However, his online presence inadvertently unraveled the entire conspiracy.
Sandila Circle Officer (CO) Santosh Singh confirmed the development, stating that based on Sheelu’s complaint and supporting evidence from social media, Jitendra was taken into custody. A case has been registered under relevant legal sections pertaining to bigamy, fraud, and dowry harassment.
Jitendra is now under police surveillance at the Sandila police station, and further legal proceedings are underway.
