Who Is Naveed Akram? 7 Key Facts About the Pakistani Man Linked to the Bondi Beach Shooting Case

24-year-old Naveed Akram was apprehended at the scene and taken to the hospital, while his father was killed in a shootout with cops

The two gunmen behind the Bondi Beach shooting have been identified as father and son. During a press conference on Monday morning (local time), New South Wales police commissioner Mal Lanyon stated the two males — 50-year-old and 24-year-old — have been identified as the only shooters involved in the attack.

Speaking to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, law enforcement sources identified the 24-year-old male as Naveed Akram and his father, 50-year-old Sajid Akram.

Officials did not speak of their nationality or origins, but multiple reports said they were of Pakistani descent. The 24-year-old assailant is a Pakistani national, according to unnamed US intelligence officials cited by CBS. CBS News further said it reviewed his New South Wales driver’s licence too.

Speaking at the press conference on Monday, NSW police concluded that only two gunmen were involved in Sunday’s attack which killed 15 people.

Commissioner Lanyon added that the search for a third attacker had been called off. Meanwhile, Law enforcement agencies told ABC news and Sydney Morning Herald that one of the gunmen has been identified as Naveen Akram.

24-year-old Naveed Akram was apprehended at the scene and taken to the hospital. While the NSW commissioner did not name Akram, he shared that the suspect remains under police guard in a critical but stable condition.

Meanwhile, ABC news reported that his father, 50-year-old Sajid Akram, who owned a fruit shop, was killed during the shooting.

Police commissioner Lanyon stated that the 50-year-old male was shot at by police officials at the time of the attack. Sajid, who is reportedly a fruit vendor, died at the scene of crime.

Meanwhile, authorities have stated that the pair had told family members they were going on a weekend fishing trip to Jervis Bay before carrying out the attack.

The attack, which is Australia’s deadliest in 30 years, took place on Sunday as the two men opened fire at a public gathering.

Crowds of locals, tourists and others had gathered at the Sydney beach to participate in a Hannukah by the Sea festival.

The initial toll of the attack stood at 12, which included the killed gunman. However, officials shared on Monday that the toll had increased to 16, which included a 10-year-old child and an 87-year-old man.

The Bondi Beach shooting incident has drawn international attention, triggering widespread concern and a surge of online searches around one key question: Who is Naveed Akram? As Australian authorities continue their investigation, reports have identified Naveed Akram, a Pakistani national, along with references to his father Sajid, in connection with the case. However, officials have urged caution, emphasizing that investigations are ongoing and details are still being verified.

Bondi Beach, one of Australia’s most iconic and crowded public destinations, was rocked by a shooting incident that prompted an immediate emergency response. Law enforcement agencies swiftly secured the area, and an investigation was launched to determine the circumstances, motive, and individuals involved.

As news of the incident spread, public interest intensified, particularly around individuals allegedly linked to the case. Among the names that surfaced in early reports was Naveed Akram, triggering questions about his background and possible role in the incident.

According to preliminary media reports, Naveed Akram is a Pakistani man whose name emerged during the early stages of the investigation. Authorities have not released extensive personal details, and officials have clarified that all individuals mentioned remain part of an ongoing probe, with due legal process being followed.

It is important to note that, as of now, no final court determination or conviction has been announced, and investigators are continuing to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and assess links connected to the shooting.

Alongside Naveed Akram, reports also mention his father, Sajid, whose name has appeared in connection with investigative leads. Law enforcement sources, as cited by media outlets, suggest that family links are being examined as part of standard procedure when tracing movements, communications, or logistical connections.

Authorities have stressed that being named in an investigation does not imply guilt, and that all persons of interest are being evaluated based on evidence rather than speculation.

Australian police have remained tight-lipped about sensitive aspects of the case, citing operational reasons. Officials have reiterated that misinformation and online rumors can complicate investigations and urged the public to rely only on verified updates from law enforcement or credible news outlets.

International cooperation, if required, is also being explored, as cross-border elements are often reviewed in cases involving foreign nationals.

The shooting has sparked intense debate on social media platforms, with hashtags and viral posts amplifying unverified claims. Experts warn that premature conclusions can unfairly damage reputations and inflame community tensions.

Legal analysts point out that high-profile cases often evolve significantly from initial reports, and early narratives may change as facts emerge.

As the Bondi Beach shooting investigation progresses, authorities are expected to release more confirmed information, including official statements clarifying the roles, if any, of those named in reports. Until then, Naveed Akram and others mentioned remain subjects of inquiry, not adjudicated offenders.

The case underscores the importance of responsible reporting, due process, and patience while investigations unfold.
