The Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) leaders will meet in Delhi to finalise the seat-sharing deal for the Bihar Assembly election today
Jan Suraaj party leader Prashant Kishor released the second list of candidates on Monday (October 13, 2025) for the Bihar Assembly elections.
The NDA announced its much-anticipated seat-sharing formula on Sunday (October 12, 2025) ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly polls. The BJP and CM Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal (United) are set to contest 101 seats each of the total 243 Assembly seats. Meanwhile, Chirag Paswan-led LJP (Ram Vilas) have been locked for 29 seats, followed by 6 seats each for Rashtriya Lok Morcha and Hindustani Awam Morcha.

Meanwhile, the Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) leaders will meet in Delhi to finalise the seat-sharing deal for the Bihar Assembly election on Monday (October 13, 2025). Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is likely to meet Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav and Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahani.
An FIR was lodged on Sunday for alleged violation of the model code of conduct (MCC), in force in poll-bound Bihar, during the much-publicised campaign of Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor in RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav’s Raghopur Assembly constituency a day ago, police said.
Party founder Prashant Kishor’s name, who is expected to contest the polls from the Raghopur seat against RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, was missing from the second candidate list released by the Jan Suraaj Party on Monday (October 13, 2025). The filing of nomination papers for 122 Bihar Assembly seats, which will go to the elections in the second phase, began on Monday (October 13, 2025), officials said.

The nomination process began with the Election Commission issuing the notification for polling in these seats on November 11, they said. Nominations can be filed for these seats till October 20, while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is October 23, they added.
BJP leader Ajay Alok on Monday (October 13, 2025) slammed the INDIA bloc over their constant attacks on the ruling alliance ahead of the Bihar Assembly election.
Speaking with ANI, Ajay Alok said that the INDIA block “should worry about themselves” and work hard to win the trust of the people.
“There are still 20 days left for the elections; work hard, win the trust of the people. What did the BJP do? What did Nitish do? Worry about yourself… What changes do they want to make in Bihar? Do they want the ‘Jungle Raj’ back?” Mr. Alok said.
Congress leader Manoj Kumar requested the top leadership of the Mahagathbandhan in Bihar on Monday (October 13, 2025) to announce the seat-sharing arrangement soon for the upcoming Legislative Assembly elections.

Kumar also hinted that the Opposition’s seat-sharing formula will be announced on Tuesday (October 14).
Mr. Kumar said to ANI, “You might be thinking there is a delay, but our leaders hold meetings to ensure there is no injustice (against party leaders). As far as I know, it (seat-sharing arrangements) will be announced by tomorrow.”
Congress leader Pramod Tiwari on Monday (October 13, 2025) said that after the NDA’s seat-sharing formula, Nitish Kumar will not become the Chief Minister again, adding that this time the Janata Dal (United) chief will not be able to become the Leader of Opposition either.
“I sympathise with Nitish Kumar; he was not supposed to become the Chief Minister, and now he will not even be able to become an LoP either… They (BJP) took 139 seats for themselves and gave the remaining 101 seats to Nitish Kumar. He will not become the CM; the CM will definitely be from the Mahagathbandhan,”
The ruling NDA will announce its candidates for the Assembly elections in Bihar on Monday (October 13, 2025) evening, State BJP president Dilip Jaiswal said.
Denying that there are any differences within the NDA over the seat-sharing arrangement announced on Sunday (October 12), he said the coalition will fight the elections unitedly.
“The NDA has already announced its seat-sharing arrangements. Now, candidates of all NDA constituents, including the BJP, will be announced in the evening,” he told reporters.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) and the BJP will contest the elections on 101 seats each, leaving the rest of the 243 seats for smaller allies.
As neighbouring Bihar gears up for Assembly elections, Jharkhand has made operational 43 checkpoints, including nine new, in its 10 border-sharing districts to curb the illegal movement of cash, liquor, narcotics and other contraband items.
The move comes in response to a formal request from Bihar, which is preparing for two-phase elections scheduled next month.
Acting on a request from Bihar to set up checkpoints at strategic locations in bordering districts, altogether 43 checkpoints have become operational in 10 districts that share borders with the neighbouring state, Jharkhand Police spokesperson and Inspector General Operations (IG Operations) Michael Raj told PTI.

The checkpoints are operational round the clock.
“We have established nine new checkpoints in addition to the existing 34. Currently, there are 43 active checkpoints spread across all 10 districts bordering Bihar,” Raj said.
The districts are Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Hazaribagh, Koderma, Giridih, Deoghar, Dumka, Godda, and Sahibganj.
According to the police, heightened vigilance will be maintained until the second phase of elections in Bihar, scheduled for November 11, was over.
“All checkpoints are being jointly manned by security personnel, magistrates, and videography teams to ensure transparency and law enforcement,” the official added. — PTI
