The incident, which unfolded during working hours, led to panic among factory workers and nearby residents. Firefighters battled for several hours to bring the inferno under control, while local authorities evacuated surrounding areas as a precautionary measure.
According to officials from the Navi Mumbai Fire Brigade, the fire broke out at a chemical unit located in the Mahape MIDC industrial area. Initial reports suggest that the blaze started in a storage section where flammable chemicals and raw materials were kept.
Witnesses said they first noticed a small fire and smoke rising from inside the factory premises. Within minutes, the flames intensified and spread rapidly due to the presence of combustible substances.
“It started with a loud blast-like sound, followed by thick smoke. Then suddenly, huge flames shot up. People started running out of the building,” said a worker who managed to escape safely.
