Folk Sensation Maithili Thakur Joins BJP Ahead of Bihar Elections 2025 — Big Boost for Party’s Cultural Outreach

Maithili Thakur joined the party in the presence of state president Dilip Jaiswal in Patna

Singer Maithili Thakur on Thursday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the state assembly elections in Bihar. She joined the party in the presence of state president Dilip Jaiswal in Patna.

“I will do whatever I am told to do. Contesting the election is not my goal, I will do whatever the party tells me to…” she told ANI earlier today.”I have seen the developments brought about by NDA in Bihar…”

Earlier this week, the singer had expressed her openness to entering politics and contesting in the upcoming Bihar assembly election, should the party decide to field her as a candidate.

Asked about her preference for constituency, she mentioned her deep roots in both Madhubani and Darbhanga, saying, “My grandmother’s village is in Madhubani and my maternal grandmother’s village is in Darbhanga. People from both places love me equally. But ultimately, it will be the party’s decision.”

As reported by HT, Maithili’s ancestral village is located in the Benipatti block of Madhubani district.

She had also described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as her favourite leader, “I have been listening to his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ and live speeches for years, which always inspired me,” the singer said.

Polls for the 243-seat Bihar Assembly are scheduled to take place on November 6 and November 11, and votes will be counted on November 14. The BJP has released its first list of 71 candidates.

In a significant political and cultural development ahead of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, acclaimed folk singer Maithili Thakur has officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The announcement, made at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, marks a major step by the party to strengthen its youth and cultural outreach across Bihar’s heartland.

The 24-year-old singer, known for her mesmerizing performances in Maithili, Bhojpuri, and Hindi folk music, enjoys a massive digital following with over 10 million fans across platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. Her decision to join the BJP is being viewed as both a symbolic and strategic move aimed at connecting the party’s ideology with Bihar’s rich cultural identity.

Speaking at the induction ceremony, Maithili Thakur expressed her gratitude to the BJP leadership, stating that she was inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for promoting India’s cultural heritage and youth empowerment.

“I want to contribute to the preservation of our traditional music and use my voice to serve the people,” Maithili said.

Party leaders including JP Nadda and Bihar BJP chief Samrat Choudhary welcomed her into the party, describing her as the “voice of Bihar’s youth and culture.”

Political analysts see Thakur’s entry as a smart cultural maneuver by the BJP. Bihar, a state deeply rooted in folk traditions and cultural pride, often witnesses emotional voter engagement through art, music, and literature.

By inducting a popular and respected figure like Maithili Thakur, the BJP is clearly looking to appeal to the youth and women voter base, particularly in Mithilanchal, Darbhanga, and Madhubani regions — areas where Maithili holds immense popularity.

According to insiders, her influence could help the party reach an additional 2–3 million young digital voters who follow her content across platforms.

Maithili’s entry continues a growing trend of artists and influencers entering mainstream politics. In recent years, BJP has welcomed several cultural figures from various Indian states, viewing them as powerful bridges between pop culture and political outreach.

Her association is also expected to enhance BJP’s campaigns on women empowerment, rural development, and cultural revival, aligning with Modi’s broader national vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.”

Opposition parties in Bihar, including the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress, have downplayed Thakur’s entry, calling it a “political gimmick.” However, BJP leaders maintain that Maithili’s popularity and integrity transcend party lines, emphasizing that her involvement will “inspire young Biharis to take pride in their roots.”

Maithili first rose to national fame after her performances in Indian Idol Junior (2011) and Rising Star (2017). Over the years, she has become a digital folk icon, reviving traditional songs and devotional music from Mithila culture. Her collaborations with brothers Rishav and Ayachi Thakur have earned millions of views globally.

With her decision to step into politics, Maithili Thakur joins a growing list of artists who are turning their public influence into social and political impact.

As Bihar gears up for the 2025 Assembly Elections, her presence is expected to add a new emotional and cultural dimension to the BJP’s campaign narrative — blending music, tradition, and nationalism.
