Eid-ul-Adha 2025: Bangladesh Railway Rolls Out Special Travel Plan With 10 Eid Trains and Digital Ticketing

As Eid-ul-Adha 2025 draws near, the anticipation and preparations for one of the most significant Islamic festivals are well underway across Bangladesh. Central to this annual celebration is the rush to return home, and this year, Bangladesh Railway has taken significant steps to streamline festive travel for millions of passengers.

In anticipation of increased travel demand, Bangladesh Railway officially opened advance ticket sales on the morning of May 25, 2025, for journeys scheduled on June 4 — a key travel date for those planning their Eid trips. In addition to launching 10 special Eid trains, the national railway authority has fully transitioned to digital ticketing for regular intercity services, marking a milestone in convenience and crowd control.

A Fully Digital Ticketing System for Intercity Trains

For the first time, 100% of regular intercity train tickets will be available exclusively online. This shift to a fully digital system is aimed at minimizing long queues at railway stations, which often create chaotic and overcrowded scenes during peak travel seasons.

Online ticket sales have been divided by region for smooth management. Sales for passengers traveling to destinations in the Western zone opened at 8:00 AM on May 25, while tickets for the Eastern zone became available at 2:00 PM the same day. Passengers can access these tickets via the Bangladesh Railway website or its official mobile app, ensuring ease of booking from the comfort of their homes.

10 Special Eid Trains to Ease the Holiday Rush

To handle the expected surge in passenger volume, Bangladesh Railway has announced 10 special Eid trains running across five major routes. These special trains will operate in two phases:

  • First Phase: June 4 to June 6, 2025
  • Second Phase: June 9 to June 14, 2025

Some of these services will even run on Eid day itself, ensuring people can travel at the last minute if necessary. Notably, tickets for these special trains will not be available online. Instead, they can only be purchased at railway station counters, giving travelers the option to buy directly and ask about specific travel details in person.

More Seats, More Options: What Passengers Need to Know

A total of 43 intercity trains will be in operation during the Eid-ul-Adha season, offering approximately 33,315 seats to accommodate the heightened travel demand. Additionally, 25% of the total capacity on each train will be set aside as “standing tickets,” available exclusively at station counters. This move is aimed at providing flexible options for last-minute travelers.

Passengers are allowed to purchase up to four tickets per transaction, allowing families or small groups to coordinate their travel plans easily. However, it is important to note that all advance ticket purchases are non-refundable, a policy designed to discourage hoarding and ensure fair access for all.

Strategic Planning for One of the Longest Eid Holidays

In another move that will benefit travelers and help reduce congestion, the Bangladesh government has approved a 10-day public holiday for Eid-ul-Adha, running from June 5 to June 14. This extended holiday period will allow people to plan their trips more flexibly and return at less congested times, further easing the burden on the transport system.

The Council of Advisers gave the green light to this extended break on May 6, 2025. It is expected to positively impact not just travel but also consumer spending and tourism within the country.

How to Prepare for Eid Travel in 2025

If you are planning to travel by train during Eid-ul-Adha, here are some important tips to make your journey smooth:

  1. Book Early: With tickets selling quickly and a non-refundable policy in place, securing your spot early is essential.
  2. Use Online Platforms: For intercity travel, leverage the Bangladesh Railway website or app to avoid long queues.
  3. Visit Counters for Special Trains: If you plan to travel on a special Eid train, make sure to visit your nearest station counter in person to purchase tickets.
  4. Plan for Standing Tickets: If regular seats are sold out, inquire about standing ticket availability at the station.
  5. Keep Travel Dates Flexible: With a 10-day holiday, traveling on off-peak days can improve your experience.

Conclusion: A Smoother Eid-ul-Adha Journey for All

With the combination of 10 dedicated Eid trains, fully digital ticketing for intercity routes, and extended public holidays, Bangladesh Railway is aiming to deliver a seamless travel experience during one of the most celebrated festivals in the country. Whether you are heading home for a reunion with loved ones or planning a peaceful holiday escape, now is the time to act. Secure your tickets, plan your schedule, and get ready for a smoother, safer, and more convenient Eid-ul-Adha journey in 2025.
