Heroic 10-Year-Old Texas Girl Saves 2-Year-Old Brother From Choking — Quick Action Prevents Tragedy

A 10-year-old girl in Texas heroically saved her 2-year-old brother from choking, using quick thinking and bravery to prevent a potential tragedy

A 10-year-old girl from Texas is being hailed as a hero after a video of her saving her younger brother from choking went viral on social media.

Leah James, daughter of a Lavon Police Department Special Programs administrator, has received widespread praise for her quick thinking and composure in the terrifying moment.

Lavon Police Department shared the video of the moment on Facebook, where Leah and her brother are seen playing on a trampoline while attempting the “Sour Candy Challenge” – a game where participants eat extremely sour candy to see who can handle it the longest. Moments later, her brother began to choke on the candy, clutching his neck as he struggled to breathe.

Catching the sudden change in her brother’s expression, Leah quickly walked over and asked if he was okay. The moment she realised he was choking, she immediately grasped the seriousness of the situation and leapt into action.

Without hesitation, Leah rushed to his side and patted his back several times. When that didn’t work, she immediately performed the Heimlich manoeuvre – a life-saving technique she had learned – successfully dislodging the candy from his throat.

The Lavon Police Department also praised her in the caption of their post, saying, “This was a real life-or-death emergency, and Leah proved that age is no barrier when it comes to being a hero. Great job, Leah! Your bravery, level head, and training made all the difference – and you’re an inspiration to us all.”

Social media users flooded the comments section with admiration for Leah’s presence of mind and bravery, many calling her a “real-life hero” and praising her parents for teaching her such an important skill at a young age.

In a heartwarming act of bravery, a 10-year-old girl from Texas became a real-life hero when she saved her 2-year-old brother from choking. The incident occurred at their family home in Austin on Tuesday afternoon, leaving neighbors and family members stunned by her quick thinking and courage.

According to the children’s parents, the toddler was eating a snack when he suddenly choked on a piece of food, struggling to breathe. Panic quickly set in as family members tried to intervene, but it was the young girl’s calm and decisive action that made all the difference.

“She immediately jumped into action, performing first aid techniques she had learned in school,” said the children’s mother. “She didn’t panic for a second, and because of her, my little boy is safe today.”

Eyewitnesses within the home described how the girl applied the Heimlich maneuver on her younger brother, successfully dislodging the food and allowing him to breathe again. The entire event reportedly lasted only a few minutes but could have turned tragic without her intervention.

The story has quickly gone viral on social media, with neighbors and local authorities praising the girl’s courage. “It’s incredible that a 10-year-old could act so effectively in such a high-pressure situation,” said Officer Mark Reynolds from the Austin Police Department. “She is a true example of bravery and preparedness.”

Her parents have confirmed that their daughter had previously learned basic first aid and CPR techniques at school, which she applied perfectly during the emergency. Community groups and online followers have lauded her quick thinking, calling her a “real-life hero” and a “guardian angel.”

Experts emphasize that this incident highlights the importance of teaching children basic safety and first aid skills from a young age. “Knowledge of first aid can save lives, no matter your age,” said Dr. Sarah Mitchell, a pediatrician. “This young girl’s actions are a perfect example of how preparedness can prevent tragedies.”

The family has expressed immense pride and relief, noting that the girl’s bravery has strengthened the bond between the siblings. “She’s our little hero,” said the father. “We are forever grateful that she knew exactly what to do when it mattered the most.”
